Democrats.com LLC is an American political activism organization based in New York City, New York. It runs ACT.TV and SwipeBlue,[1] and previously ran Blue Wave Voters and Vote Pro-Choice.[2]
Democrats.com LLC founded in 2000 by Bob Fertik and David Lytel "to mobilize progressive Democratic activists and voters to win elections and advocacy campaigns."[3][4] The company was incorporated in New York on January 11, 2000.[5] It was officially launched in August 2000 at the 2000 Democratic National Convention, coinciding with the Democratic Party's nomination of Al Gore for President in the 2000 United States presidential election.[6]
On election day on November 7, 2000, Democrats.com "heard about widespread voting problems in Palm Beach" and engaged local lawyers to investigate. The organization solicited affidavits of voters who reported experiencing problems casting their ballot, which contributed to the Gore campaign requesting a recount in Palm Beach, Miami Dade, Broward, and Volusia counties.[6:1]
In the immediate aftermath of the election, Democrats.com launched a campaign called Trust the People "to assist with the organization of nationwide protests."[7] Trust the People also called on the United States Congress to "reject Florida's electors on January 6, [2001]."[8] Democrats.com also launched Justice in Florida "to support a lawsuit by voters in Seminole County, Florida against Election Supervisor Sandra Goard."[6:2][9]
Lytel left Democrats.com in late 2002 to found the Committee to ReDefeat the President.[10]
In the fall of 2020, Democrats.com joined the Protect the Results coalition created by Indivisible and Stand Up America, which organized protestors from "the left" to prepared to "flood the streets" if President Donald Trump won the 2020 United States presidential election.[11][12]
Democrats.com was named in Time Magazine's February 2021 article titled "The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election" describing "a conspiracy unfolding behind the scenes" to "fortify" the election against Trump.[11:1]
