Nanobiosym, formerly called Nanotune, is an American nanotechnology company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Nanotune, Inc. was incorporated in Delaware on January 10, 2002.[1] The company received $448,844 in funding in 2004 from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research for research on "biomolecular motors (biomotors)".[2] On November 4, 2004, Nanotune changed its name to Nanobiosym.[3]
Nanobiosym Diagnostics was incorporated in Delaware on February 27, 2006.[4] On September 26, 2007, Nanobiosym announced that it and Nanobiosym Diagnostics had received a $2 million contract from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) to support the development of its Gene-RADAR genetic test, "a portable nanotechnology-enabled platform, that can rapidly and accurately detect genetic fingerprints from any biological organism." The funding was described by Nanobiosym founder Anita Goel as "our first defense contract" and "a major step towards establishing the US government as one of our long-term customers."[5]
A branch of Nanobiosym Diagnostics was incorporated in Massachusetts on December 19, 2008.[6]
Nanobiosym Advisory Services LLC was incorporated on July 20, 2012.[7]
At the annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative on September 30, 2015, Nanobiosym chairman Anita Goel announced the company's intention to deploy its Gene-RADAR genetic test "in Africa to stop Ebola and other infectious outbreaks."[8]
Nanobiosym paid $90,000 in 2020 to Ballard Partners' Brian Ballard and Dan Mcfaul to lobby the White House, the United States Department of Health and Human Services and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation on issues related to health and pharmaceuticals.[9]
On November 8, 2022, Nanobiosym received an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for a SARS-CoV-2 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test called "The Nano Test for COVID-19".[10]
