Thrive Capital is an American venture capital firm based in New York City, New York. It was founded by Joshua Kushner, brother of Jared Kushner.[1]
Joshua Kushner founded Thrive Capital in 2009 with encouragement from Joel Cutler, co-founder of General Catalyst.[1:1] Cutler and General Catalyst led the initial $5 million funding round and introduced Kushner to other investors.[2]
In August 2011, Thrive Capital reported raising $40 million from Hall Capital Partners, Peter Thiel, Princeton University and Wellcome Trust.[3]
Thrive Capital participated in Instagram's Series B funding round in 2012.[2:1]
In December 2014, Thrive led a $70 million funding round into Stripe. Will Gaybrick, former general partner at Thrive, joined Stripe as Chief Financial Officer.[2:2]
In May 2021, Petershill Partners invested $120 million in Thrive Capital.[2:3]
Bob Iger joined as a partner at Thrive Capital in September 2022.[4]
