The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) is an American federal government agency responsible for the procurement and development of medical countermeasures. Its areas of focus include defending against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats, as well as infectious diseases and pandemic preparedness.[1]
BARDA reports to the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) within the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
On September 15, 2011, BARDA awarded a $21 million contract to Vaxin (now called Altimmune)[2] to develop a novel anthrax vaccine.[3] Robert Malone claims credit for securing this grant.[4]
On April 14, 2020, BARDA awarded Alchem Laboratories a $20.7 million contract to conduct a clinical trial on famotidine as a potential treatment for COVID-19.[5]
At some point in 2020, Steve Kirsch reached out to Robert Malone for help applying for an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from BARDA.[6]
BARDA is a partner organization of Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines (ACTIV).[7]
