Burisma Holdings Limited is a energy exploration and production holding company based in Kyiv, Ukraine. It is registered in Limassol, Cyprus.
Burisma is owned by Ukrainian oligarch Mykola Zlochevsky through his company Brociti Investments. Zlochevsky was minister of natural resources under Viktor Yanukovych, former president of Ukraine.[1]
Hunter Biden joined the board of directors for Burisma on April 18, 2014, as did former John Kerry advisor Devon Archer.[1:1] At the time, Archer and Biden were working together as managing partners at Rosemont Seneca Partners in Washington, D.C.[2]
In 2017, Burisma announced a partnership with the Atlantic Council to promote "anti-corruption measures" in Ukraine.[3]
In the lead up to the 2020 United States presidential election, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned Meta Platforms of "a potential Russian disinformation operation" around former vice president Joe Biden's family and Burisma.[4]
On March 27, 2022, Maria Zakharova of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation published an alleged timeline of American-Ukrainian bioweapons research which suggested that Burisma had begun cooperating with Metabiota on an unnamed "science project in Ukraine" in 2014.[5][6]
On July 20, 2023, Republican Senator Chuck Grassley released a previously-top-secret witness form from the FBI which described Burisma founder Mykola Zlochevsky's $5,000,000 payments to both then-Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, in exchange for the firing of Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin.[7][8]
