Recorded Future is an American cybersecurity company based in Somerville, Massachusetts. It is a subsidiary of Mastercard.[1]
Recorded Future was founded in 2009.[2]
On May 30, 2019, Insight Partners announced it had acquired Recorded Future for $780 million.[2:1] It was subsequently acquired by Mastercard on September 12, 2024.[1:1]
On December 18, 2024, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation announced that Recorded Future had been declared an “undesirable” organization, effectively banning all activity within Russia.[3] The Prosecutor General cited Recorded Future's alleged cooperation with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and other foreign intelligence agencies, collection and analysis of data on the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and alleged assistance to Ukraine in conducting offensive information operations against Russia.[4]
