Interior Health Authority is a Canadian regional health agency based in Kelowna, British Columbia. It is funded by the British Columbia Ministry of Health.
Dr. Daniel Nagase brought a lawsuit against Interior Health, Drs. Peter Entwistle and Jonathan Slater, and South Okanagan General Hospital on the grounds of "defamation, interference with contractual relations and breach of his privacy." On September 15, 2015, Justice Gordon Weatherill dismissed Nagase's defamation charge.[1] Nagase appealed the decision, appearing in court on May 10, 2016, but this was also dismissed in a June 15, 2016 decision.[2]
Interior Health received a $195,814 award from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) through the Immunization Partnership Fund during the 2016-2019 period for a project titled "Implementing an Electronic Immunization Reminder/Recall System in British Columbia's Interior Health Region."[3]
On June 4, 2020, Interior Health was awarded $1,410,000 through the Global Innovation Clusters for a COVID-19-related project titled "Stronger Together: Social Infrastructure for Community Health." Co-recipients included Curatio Networks, Cloud DX, the University of British Columbia (UBC), Pacific Blue Cross, Simon Fraser University (SFU), University Health Network (UHN), Wellness Garage, On Call Health and Zu.[4]
Interior Health was allocated funds by UBC from the Canada Research Continuity Emergency Fund, based on income data provided by the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO).[5]
As a result of the agency's mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, Interior Health dismissed 895 staff in 2021 and 80 in 2022 for "non-compliance."[6]
Interior Health received $300,329 from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) in the 2021-2022 fiscal year.[7]
On October 13, 2023, Terri Perepolkin and Jedediah Ferguson filed a notice of civil claim on behalf of United Health Care Workers of BC in the Supreme Court of British Columbia against provincial health officer Bonnie Henry for her role in the province's ongoing COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The suit seeks to achieve class action status under the Class Proceedings Act.[8]
Interior Health runs ImmunizeBC alongside the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), British Columbia Ministry of Health, First Nations Health Authority, Fraser Health Authority, Vancouver Island Health Authority, Northern Health Authority, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, the Public Health Association of British Columbia and the British Columbia Pharmacy Association.[9]
