The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is an American nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. AAAS is the publisher of the scientific journal Science.
Patrick Ball founded the Human Rights Data Analysis Group (HRDAG) in December 1991, becoming part of AAAS's Science and Human Rights Program in September 2002.[1][2] On November 3, 2003, HRDAG's staff and projects were transferred to Benetech.[2:1] HRDAG was officially spun out as a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on February 1, 2013.[3]
Science's reporting on COVID-19 stories is sponsored by the Pulitzer Center and the Heising-Simons Foundation.[4]
AAAS received a $10,000 grant from Pfizer in the first quarter of 2021 for “general operating support.”[5]
AAAS is a member of the Coalition for National Science Funding (CNSF)[6] and the Task Force on American Innovation,[7] and is the organizational co-chair of the Engaging Scientists & Engineers in Policy Coalition (ESEP).[8] AAAS is listed by ScienceUpFirst as a collaborator,[9] and a participating organization of the Virtual Biosecurity Center.[10]
AAAS has been a client of Coates & Jarratt.[11]
