AstraZeneca plc is a British-Swedish pharmaceutical and biotechnology company based in Cambridge, England. It is the developer of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
On December 8, 2009, the National Press Foundation (NPF) posted a message on Twitter thanking AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and others for supporting their awards dinner.[1]
AstraZeneca sponsored the Canadian Immunization Conference 2016, which took place from December 6-8, 2016 in Ottawa, Ontario.[2]
AstraZeneca participated as an industry leadership member of the Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines (ACTIV) public-private partnership.[3]
In early June 2020, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation contributed $750 million to the development of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine candidate in collaboration with the University of Oxford. AstraZeneca then partnered with Emergent BioSolutions to manufacture the product.[4][5]
Canada's COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force reviewed a proposal for a COVID-19 vaccine submitted by AstraZeneca on June 25, 2020, with a followup meeting taking place on June 29.[6]
On August 6, 2020, AstraZeneca and its collaborators were awarded a $1,590,000 grant from the Government of Canada through the Global Innovation Clusters program. The grant was for a project titled “Project ACTT — Access to Cancer Testing & Treatment in Response to COVID-19,” in collaboration with Canexia Health, Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA), Xtract AI, GenoLife, Illumina, LifeLabs, Novateur, Queen's University, Semaphore Solutions, Institute of Health Economics (IHE), Nova Scotia Health Authority, Pfizer and Novartis.[7]
AstraZeneca sponsored the 2021 British Columbia Pharmacy Association Annual Conference.[8]
Pascal Soriot, AstraZeneca's CEO and executive director, attended the One World Protected launch event for COVAX on April 15, 2021, hosted by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.[9]
On June 10, 2021, AstraZeneca's head of clinical development for vaccines and immune therapies, Prakash Bhuyan, participated in the 2nd Global Consultation on SARS-CoV-2 Variants of Concern and the Impact on Public Health Interventions hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO).[10]
AstraZeneca acquired Alexion Pharmaceuticals in 2021, adding its rare disease brand to the company's portfolio.[11]
AstraZeneca sponsored the virtual Canadian Immunization Conference 2021, which took place December 8-9, 2021.[12]
